How to Use Your GoPro with Stop Motion Studio (No Direct Support)
Simple workaround using GoPro's official Webcam software
Step 1: Download GoPro Webcam Software
👉 Go to: https://community.gopro.com/s/article/GoPro-Webcam
Download and install the GoPro Webcam desktop utility on your computer (Windows 10/11 or macOS). Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.
INFO
Compatible models: GoPro Hero8 Black and newer (Hero9, Hero10, Hero11, Hero12). Older models are not supported.
Step 2: Restart Your Computer
After installation, restart your computer to ensure the software is properly initialized.
INFO
The GoPro Webcam utility runs in the background from your system tray — it won't appear as a regular app window.
Step 3: Configure Your GoPro Camera
- Make sure your GoPro has the latest firmware installed (update via the GoPro app on your phone).
- On the camera, ensure Wireless connections are turned off to avoid conflicts.
- No additional USB mode setting is required — the camera detects the connection automatically.
Step 4: Connect Your Camera
- Use a USB-C cable to connect your GoPro to your computer.
- The camera should power on automatically and switch into Webcam Mode (you'll see a webcam icon on the screen).
- The GoPro Webcam tray icon will turn active once the camera is detected.
Step 5: Use Your Camera in Stop Motion Studio Pro
- Open Stop Motion Studio Pro.
- Go to Camera Settings → Camera Source.
- Select "GoPro Webcam" (name may vary slightly depending on your OS).
- You may see a brief delay the first time opening the camera feed — just wait a few seconds.
✅ Done! Your GoPro is now acting as a live webcam feed in Stop Motion Studio Pro. You can take photos, adjust settings, and begin your stop motion animation.
✅ Tips:
- Use a tripod or GoPro mount to keep your camera perfectly steady between frames.
- Set your GoPro to ProTune Manual mode for consistent exposure across every shot.
- Turn off Auto Power Off (under Preferences) to prevent the camera from sleeping mid-session.
- Keep the GoPro plugged in via USB the entire session — it will draw power from your computer.
- If the feed drops or freezes, try unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable, or restarting the GoPro Webcam utility from the system tray.
