How to Use Your Sony DSLR with Stop Motion Studio (No Direct Support)

Simple workaround using Sony’s Image Edge Webcam software

Step 1: Download Sony Image Edge Webcam Software

👉 Go to: https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/webcam/en/download/
Download and install the Image Edge Webcam software on your computer (Windows or macOS).
Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

Step 2: Restart Your Computer

After installation, restart your computer to ensure the software is properly initialized.

INFO

The software runs in the background and won’t appear in your desktop or Start menu.

Step 3: Configure Your Sony Camera

  • Turn off Smartphone Connection (if enabled).
  • Go to your camera’s menu and set:
    • PC Remote = On
    • USB Connection = PC Remote (not "Mass Storage" or "MTP")

Step 4: Connect Your Camera

  • Use a USB cable to connect your Sony DSLR to your computer.
  • The camera should power on automatically and appear as a webcam.

Step 5: Use Your Camera in Stop Motion Studio Pro

  • Open Stop Motion Studio Pro.
  • Go to Camera SettingsCamera Source.
  • Select “Image Edge Webcam” (or “Sony Image Edge” – name may vary slightly).
  • You may see a brief delay the first time opening the camera feed — just wait a few seconds.

Done! Your Sony DSLR is now acting as a live webcam feed in Stop Motion Studio Pro. You can take photos, adjust settings, and begin your stop motion animation.

✅ Tips:

  • Use a tripod to keep your camera steady.
  • Shoot in Manual (M) mode for consistent exposure.
  • Turn off Auto Power Off on your camera to prevent interruptions.
  • If the feed flickers or drops, try re-plugging the USB cable or restarting the software.
