CAMERA TROUBLESHOOTING
Camera not working? Start here.
Choose the camera you’re using, then follow the checks below. Built-in cameras, USB webcams, DSLR cameras, and Remote Camera each need different setup steps.
Built-in camera on a phone or tablet
- Camera icon with a line through it? Check that Stop Motion Studio has camera permission in your device settings. Follow the permission guide →
- Camera selected, but the live image is hard to see? Adjust the onion skin slider to show the live camera feed. Check the onion skin settings →
- App closes when you create a project on Android? Follow the Legacy Camera Mode guide →
After the relevant change, reopen the capture view and check whether the live image appears.
USB webcam
- Follow the guide for your device: Windows USB camera → or Chromebook USB webcam →.
- Reopen the app after changing permissions, select the webcam, and check its live image.
DSLR camera
- Check that your camera is listed in the supported DSLR cameras →.
- Follow the DSLR connection steps →.
- Check both the live preview and a test capture before starting your movie.
Remote Camera app
- Follow Remote Camera Not Working → if the other device doesn’t appear or won’t connect.
- Return to Stop Motion Studio and check whether the remote device appears in the camera selection and provides a live image.
Still no camera image?
Check whether the camera works in another app. If it works there but still fails in Stop Motion Studio, tell us:
- Your device and operating system version.
- Your Stop Motion Studio version.
- The camera type and model, including the second device if using Remote Camera.
- Which checks you tried, and any error message you saw.
